There comes a stage in your skincare routine that you want to enhance the appearance of your skin. Clean skincare was a term coined by the beauty world for years as chemicals were considered as daunting.

Since the pandemic, we have seen the evolution of Cleanical beauty. Cleanical beauty has been defined by Cult Beauty founder Alexis Inge as “"it harnesses natural ingredients, but with a parallel focus on lab-grown, performance-enhancing technology and synthetic ‘guard dogs’ to counter our heightened alarm around contamination." In layman's terms, it’s natural ingredients recreated in lab environments.

Brands such as Bio-essence, REN, Bio-Effect, Codex and OSKIA are pioneering by marrying science and natural ingredients to target specific skincare concerns.

The Gloss team has compiled a list of holy grail cleanical products that we just couldn't keep to ourselves.

Acne

The Inkey List SuperSolutions 1% Retinol Serum

If you suffer with acne breakouts, then this one's for you. If you are ready to make your acne disappear for once and for all, you need Retinol. Retinol is known for its extensive list of benefits from slowing ageing skin, to evening skin tone, reducing fine lines, treating acne, reducing pigmentation, clear pores, and revealing brighter skin. It is recommended to build your skin’s tolerance to acne and to use it once or twice a week initially and then wait 30 mins before applying any other skin care products to your face.

We love this product because it includes apricot-kernel oil, avocado oil, and squalane. Which helps with the post acne scarring in terms of size, shape and discoloration. It also helps to moisturise and improve the skin's barrier as retinol can be quite drying.

Golden rule: Always apply spf which uses retinol as retinoids increase cell turnover which can leave your skin thinner and more fragile.

Dark Marks

Topicals Faded Serum for Dark Spots & Discoloration

So now that we have gotten rid of the acne, we could be left with a few unwanted friends, acne marks, also known as hyperpigmentation.

  • Tranexamic acid: Which acts as a brightening agent for the skin to improve hyperpigmentation and remove dark marks.
  • Niacinamide: Which targets discoloration
  • Azelaic acid: Brighten the skin complexion and improve the skin texture.
